Meet the Staff

For our next installment of our Meet the Staff series, today, Melody Sayre, one of our line editors, is visiting to share a bit about herself.

Eden: Hi, Melody, welcome to the blog.  Tell us a little about yourself

Melody: I’m the kind of person that finds words like ‘weirdo’ and ‘eclectic’ complimentary. I strive to stand out from the crowd. Self-proclaimed poet and alien lover, I don’t kid myself with concepts of normal or fitting in. Ever since I started reading at age three, I’ve been addicted to books. Reading gives me an opportunity to explore new worlds and have experiences that I had no other way of pursuing.

Eventually I wondered: what if I could give someone else that same opportunity? I started offering advice to my friends in high school on how to improve their writing and eventually became the go to gal on writing and fixing mistakes. I’ve been freelance editing ever since. I also started writing stories and comics at age eight (mostly about unicorns and my invented, misunderstood hero Aqua Overcoat). Later on I slowly discovered other forms of writing and eventually got into poetry. Now, I’m working on my first fiction series.

Eden: What brought you to work as a line editor here at Entranced Publishing?

Melody: I’ve been studying Communication, Grammar and Editing for as long as it’s been available in my high school and college. I took every English class available in High School and looked at many of my classmates papers. I’ve also graded papers as a teachers aide on multiple occasions and I have done a lot of freelance work for my colleagues and their friends. This experience helped me move up to be a line editor at Entranced Publishing, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Eden: What makes good writing stand out from other writing?

Melody: I firmly believe that good writing makes the reader feel something so powerful that they will be hard pressed to forget what they have read. Whether that be Harry Potter or The Bible, Wuthering Heights or The Shining, it doesn’t matter to me. Good writing also possess all of the qualities of proper grammar and knowledge of the English language. Put those together and you have a great novel!

Eden: What makes you get up in the morning?

Melody: Knowing that I can help someone through my own actions or by improving the work of others. Getting to work as a line editor knowing that I help make some fabulous even better or knowing that my writing has helped someone else really keeps me going.

Eden: Thanks for stopping by the blog today.  Is there anything you’d like readers to know before you go?

Melody:  Following your passion is the best thing you can do with your life. Whether your passion be reading, writing, or following The Bachelor. Sometimes, following your passion can be hard, but those are the moments that will prove your love, and your merit.

It may be hard, but I know from experience that it’s worth it.
Be looking for some fantastic, riveting work from us soon!

What a great interview.  In addition to her position as Line Editor, Melody Sayre is also interning in our marketing department, developing the skills and gaining the knowledge she needs, to one day grow into a leadership role in marketing.

Eden Plantz is Managing Editor and Marketing Director for Entranced Publishing.
